Life/Lines 4.21.21

still speak words that tremble
as you finger the fragile filament
between expectation and hope.

to reconcile what is with
what we would have it be
does not dismiss the continual striving.

if even an ember does remain,
the long arc’s bend will sustain.

To celebrate National Poetry Month, Washington University in St. Louis’ Center for the Humanities releases a prompt a day for anyone to write and share poetry. The prompt for this day was to include the following 5 words in a short poem that doesn’t exceed 7 or 8 lines: tremble, filament, ember, arc, reconcile. See more about the Life/Lines project here.
